Message from President
Prof. Yoko Kato
ACNS is at the cross roads, now it is the time to take ACNS to the next level and make it at par with other western neurosurgical societies. ACNS may not have a very long and illustrious history like many other societies. What is worth considering is contribution it has made towards the neurosurgical community in Asia.
Message from Counsellor General
Prof. Iype Cherian
Asia is an amalgamation of cultures. We represent the young Neurosurgeons from Asia to look to a better future with all the battles raging on. We hope to spread the message of improvement of technical skills and being a better human being to achieve our goal of being exemplary surgeons.
History of ACNS
The development of Neurosurgery in Asia was random and sporadic. It was limited to a few countries to start with and the other countries lagged behind with terms of Neurosurgical facilities. While most countries started off late or did not bloom with respect to the departments of Neurosurgery, Japan was among one of the world leaders in Neurosurgery with a huge number of Neurosurgeons, research in neurosciences and very refined techniques fusing both technology and refined surgical skills to achieve some remarkable results in various subspecialties of Neurosurgery. Fujita University and its Neurosurgeons always aspired to better the benchmarks set.
In Memoriam/ Late Emeritus Prof. Tetsuo Kanno
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Emeritus Professor Tetsuo Kanno, the founding President of the Asian Congress of Neurological Surgeons (ACNS) and one of the most respectful, humble, outstanding and leading neurosurgeons in the world. Emeritus Professor Tetsuo Kanno died peacefully on 6th August 2021 at 5.12 am Japan Standard Time, at 81 years old due to heart ailment. Emeritus Professor Tetsuo Kanno was my superior, my mentor, exemplary role model to many young neurosurgeons, a visionary leader and loyal friend.
